Lakeside Hospital - Belle Glade Features The Lakeside Hospital in Belle Glade, Florida in addition to providing a much needed medical service to the surrounding rural area, is an interesting hybrid combining tilt-up concrete construction and metal building construction. Lakeside is a traditional metal structure skinned in three story tilt panels to create a solid construction with concrete strength and aesthetic. Using Tilt-Con’s Value Engineering procedures, the exterior skin was redesigned and converted from a precast system to a site cast one. Hanging the site cast panels from a steel frame eliminated pieces and the integral returns and ledge caps provided cost savings to the owner while maintaining their desired aesthetic. The panels sports appealing architectural detailing with reveals, recesses and rustication that were formed into the concrete at the time of pouring. With these clean lines and soft colors the building produces and calming atmosphere. The chiller structure is surrounded by two story free standing panels that create a visually appealing solution to concealing mechanical aspects of the building. Lakeside Hospital provided challenging site conditions with soil predominantly of clay. Lakeside is also one of the few large buildings in Belle Glade helping to create jobs and encouraging growth in this farming community.
