District 9 Medical Office
Features The District 9 Medical Examiner’s Office provides Orange and Osceola Counties with a high-tech, cutting edge forensic facility that is also atmospherically sensitive to the needs of the families of the deceased. District 9 combines LEED certification, efficient use of space, and a new design ideology for medical examiner offices to create a building that is functional, environmentally conscience, healthier for the employees and kinder to the families. District 9 is also one of the first medical examiner’s offices in the country that is a green building. Tilt-Con was instrumental in generating points for the building's LEED certification by using recycled materials such as fly ash, rebar, and concrete. Additionally, Tilt-Con used low Volatile Organic Compounds materials. The wall panels were constructed locally, eliminating trucking materials from precast sites. Energy savings were also achieved by using concrete as a thermal barrier, reducing heat gain.
The innovative design of District 9 presents an open and warm atheistic as opposed to the dark and foreboding facades generally associated with a county morgue. District 9 is also the new home for the Discovery Health Chanel’s Dr. G: Medical Examiner series and provides four times the capacity of the prior facility playing a vital role in the area’s growth.
